Her Excellency Dr. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim

Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, GCSK, CSK, PhD, Dsc

Professor. Biodiversity scientist. Entrepreneur. Author. 6th President
Republic of Mauritius

Ameenah Gurib-Fakim has been the Managing Director of the Centre
International de Développement Pharmaceutique (CIDP) Research and
Innovation as well as Professor of Organic Chemistry with an endowed chair
at the University of Mauritius. Since 2001, she has served successively as
Dean of the Faculty of Science and Pro Vice Chancellor (2004- 2010). She
has also worked at the Mauritius Research Council as Manager for Research
Ms Gurib-Fakim earned a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Surrey
(1983) and a PhD from the University of Exeter, UK (1987). During her
academic journey, she has participated in several consultation meetings on
environmental issues organized by international organizations. Between
2011-2013, she was elected and served as Chairperson of the International
Council for Scientific Union – Regional Office for Africa, and served as an
Independent Director on the Board of Barclays Bank of Mauritius Ltd
between (2012-2015).
As a Founding Member of the Pan African Association of African Medicinal
Plants, she co-authored the first ever African Herbal Pharmacopoeia. She
has authored and co-edited 30 books, several book chapters and scientific
articles in the field of biodiversity conservation and sustainable
development. She has lectured extensively across the world; is a Member
of the Editorial Boards of major journals, has served on Technical and
national committees in various capacities. Elevated to the Order of the
Commander of the Star and Key by the Government of Mauritius in 2008,
she has been admitted to the Order of the Chevalier dans L’Ordre des
Palmes Academiques by the Government of France in 2010 and is the
recipient of 5 DSc (s).
Elected Fellow of several academies and societies, Ms Gurib-Fakim received
several international prizes including the 2007 l’Oreal-UNESCO Prize for
Women in Science, the African Union Commission Award for Women in
Science, 2009.
On 05 June 2015, she was sworn in as the 6th President and the First
Female President of the Republic of Mauritius and served in that capacity
until March 2018.
She was elevated to the Order of GCSK by the Government of Mauritius,
and received the Legion d’Honneur from the Government of France in
2016. In 2017, she received both the lifelong achievement award of the
United States Pharmacopoeia-CePat Award and the American Botanical
Council Norman Farnsworth Excellence in Botanical Research Award. In
2018, she received the Order of St George at the Semperopernball,
Dresden, Germany. In 2019, she received the ‘Trailblazing award for
political leadership’ by the World Women Leaders Council in Iceland.
In June 2016, she was in the Forbes List for the 100 ‘Most Powerful women
in the world’ and 1st among the Top 100 Women in Africa Forbes List 2017,
2019. She is honoured as one of Foreign Policy’s 2015 Global Thinkers.

Ms. Bogolo J. Kenewendo

Bogolo J. Kenewendo is a Former Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry of Botswana and was the youngest minister and female Member of Parliament in the history of Botswana.

As  Minister, she introduced a number of reforms like the online business registration System, digital economy strategy, supplier development program for SMEs and e-commerce ecosystem to transform trade and business in Botswana. She chaired several trade agreement negotiations including a post-Brexit agreement with the United Kingdom, the Joint Council Economic Partnership Agreement with the European Union and the Tripartite Free Trade Area Agreement. She promoted protection of children’s rights by moving two motions, “The alignment of the penal code to the Children’s Act” and “The creation of a sex offender’s registry.” She has served in other leadership positions including Program Leader for the Molaya Kgosi Women Leadership and Mentorship Program and the Board Chair of Molaya Kgosi Trust, member and advisor for the United Nations Secretary-General (UN SG) António Guterres‘ High-Level Panel on Digital Cooperation, member of the WEF Global Future Council for Global Public Goods in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. She is a Chevening scholar with an MSc in International Economics from the University of Sussex (UK), a certified Project Management PRINCE 2 practitioner and a BQA accredited trainer on economic issues. She has received a number of honours like the Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) award, Botswana ChangeMakers award in business and leadership, the Formidable Woman award, Chevening’s 35 Global Changemakers award and she constantly features in Africa’s most Influential person’s lists.

Fatima Alimohamed

Fatima Alimohamed the CEO of African Brand Warrior is an African and Kenyan. She is an advocator for Africa and African brands with a solid track record across African markets that lead her to change from boots to heels where needed. Fatima is a thought leader in Strategy, Brand Development, Consumer Relationships, NPD, Marketing and Communication. Her belief is that every contact she makes through her various African markets visit must educate, inspire and help transform the lives of people. She believes that lifting the people up through brands is the one way to grow both people and businesses.

Fatima was honoured with the TOP 50 CMO’s Global award in Singapore and the TOP 100 Most Talented Marketers Global Award in India and was recently handed a Citation for Leadership Excellence by the African Women Leaders CMO Asia in Mauritius. She was Stooled as the Queen Mother (Nkosohemaa) in Memia, Western Ghana for her role in social development in the area of women and children. This has earned her the title of a Queen Mother and a Local name 'Nana Nyanzu'. 

In May 2018, she was awarded in London, United Kingdom at two separate events the ‘Inspirational Woman of the year’ By Women4Africa and also won the award of Marketing Woman of the year by WinTrade London. In April 2019, the Women Economic Forum awarded Fatima with the award of ‘Iconic Woman Building a better World’ in Delhi India and again was awarded in Egypt in February 2020. Fatima is the regional director for Africa for ‘Nations of Women’ and is the Country head Ghana for All Ladies league a global initiative.

Joanne Mwangi- Yelbert

Ms. Augustina Austin

Ms. Kimberly Ofori

Kimberly is the founder and curator of SheWins, a consultancy with a community platform that focuses on educating, upskilling and funding professional career and business women.

She also founded the Apreneur Network, the digital networking platform for African entrepreneurs that was recently sold to a US investor.

Barbara Gwanmesia

Barbara Gwanmesia is a serial entrepreneur and the co-founder of Afrii Company - whose celebratory sweet-snack ‘afribol’ has appeared seasonally since 2016 in AH togo - a division of The Netherlands' biggest Super Market Albert Heijn. When Barbara is not talking or thinking afribol, she is busy masterminding copywriting gems that drive readers to take action on clients’ or her own websites. Either that or she is on the trail of her ‘woman-power’ magazine BygGyrlsDyntCry. Barbara is presently working on structuring and establishing the policy standard for a small local TV Channel in The Netherlands, and putting her singer/song-writing skills to work in her shower. Ms. Winnie Mabena

In terms of volunteer experience, Winnie  is currently  volunteering  as a board chairperson for Young Women in Action an organisation  empowering  young women to maximise  their potential  and take up leadership positions through  capacity building, networking, and advocacy. She was recently appointed as Board of Trustees for Cruise Education Uganda.  She volunteered  with Plan International Zambia as the National Representative for the Youth Advisory Panel  where she took part in local and international consultation processes on ending  child marriage notably  formulation of social movement guidelines for southern Africa to end child marriage and traditional and social media campaigns on girls rights and education.

Mr. Danny den Hartog

Danny den Hartog is the Founder of Coach Africa, social entrepreneur and international business/ scaling coach. Danny has a love for Africa and an obsession for personal development. Danny believes that "Everything we create in life, we first create in our minds and that we can only change the world inside out"

Danny loves Africa because of its diversity, its wonderful people and its infinite potential. Terrie Ruth Nyaboke

Terrie an award winning young woman who was voted the UN Climate Action Change Maker of the year 2019/ 2020. She is a young enthusiastic lady keen on innovating for health as young African lady who not only has faced major health challenges but has defied all odds to become who she is. Thus she found RHDCHD action group in Kenya which is a group of young people that aims to create awareness, research and innovations geared towards heart disease treatment.

Terrie is advancing her studies Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering making her to work in a male dominated field.
She believes young people do not need critics but role models thus she sets herself as a role model to her peers especially girls aspiring to study Engineering.

Martha Mghendi-Fisher

Martha is a fintech & payments thought leader, an immigrant, a social entrepreneur, diversity & inclusion advocate and a philanthropist with years of experience in cards, payments, financial industry, NGOs and social entrepreneurship. 

Martha is the Founder & Chair to the Executive Board at European Women Payments Network (EWPN), a Pan-European network championing diversity & inclusion in fintech & payments; Founder of African Women in Fintech & Payments (AWFP); Founder of Dali Spaces-Coworking Spaces for WomenFemtreat & The Fintologist.

Ms. Joy Wanjiru Zenz

Joy Wanjiru Zenz is the founder of African Women in Europe. (AWE), the CEO of African Market in Europe (AME), Awarded as one of the African living legend in Germany 2018, Winner of 2018 African Business Support Award (The Voice Awards Amsterdam), Nominated for International Diversity Leadership Award 2018.
She was born in Kenya, a mother living in Germany. Her aim is to connect African Women living in Europe and around the world through AWE platform irrespective of their geographical locations. Joy started her website in 2008 and now has over 4000 actively involved women networking among each other. African Market in Europe is a Market solution for customers to find African Products and Services in Europe on one platform. It is a bridge between both continents.
She is a professional Event Organizer. Together with her team she has been able to move one
step forward from networking online to face to face networking by organising successful events

Rehmah Kasule

Rehmah Kasule, Founder CEDA International and Senior Fellow of Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative 

Rehmah was born a village girl, but she refused to become a village woman. With inner strength and peace with who she is, dreaming big, strong passion, hope for the future, and positive role models and mentors, enabled her to transformed her life from mare survival to success and significance. At 26 years, she started her own branding and marketing business. Her story is a true testimony that one’s background doesn’t determine their destiny, people have the power to design the future they want.

In 2009, she “shifted from building brands to shifting mind-sets” by starting CEDA International,  a nonprofit organization that has inspired, mentored, empowered and skilled over 186,000 youth and women to re-frame their thinking and attitudes, and lead change in their communities. Her work has won several international awards, was recognized by President Barack Obama, Fortune/Goldman Sachs Global Women Leaders Award and she was named one of Most Influential African Women in government and civil society in 2016. 

Rehmah is an author of “From Gomba to the White House -  A journey of an African Entrepreneur” and she has delivered expert consultancy on strategic planning, education reform, gender mainstreaming and trade, youth development, policy analysis and private sector development for the United Nations, African Development Bank, International Trade Center and European Investment Bank. She has served twice as a Judge to the MacArthur Foundation 100&Change, a $100 Million Competition to help solve a critical social problem. 


In 2019, during her fellowship year at Harvard University, she innovated the PLUS+AFRICA, a social venture that is creating employment pathways for young women through entrepreneurship education, business incubation, innovation and technology. With a great passion for gender equality, she uses her voice to empower other women to succeed and thrive by creating positive and authentic narratives to mentor future generations. One thing she knows for sure it that “the night sky is never lit by one bright star, it’s lit by the billions of stars that come together, and if you walk alone, you go fast, when you take others, you go far. We are Stronger together.”

Her working experience spans across 4 careers (Accountancy, Marketing, Insurance, Coaching) in 21 countries across 3 continents (Africa, Europe, America). She has supported top-tier executives in over 100 organizations across several sectors: Petroleum, health, banking, hospitality, insurance, beverages and development sector. Has served, and still serves, on numerous development and private sector Boards.

She founded the first coaching firm in East Africa—Coach Africa Ltd. and Institute of Work Culture and Ethics.

She holds a Doctorate in Executive Performance from Middlesex University and is a credentialed Professional Coach (ICF).

Uchenne L. Umeh

A former Lieutenant Colonel in the US Air Force, Uchenna L. Umeh (Dr. Lulu aka The Momatrician) is also a board-certified pediatrician, global speaker on youth suicide, 2-time bestselling author, and youth suicide activist. She is Nigerian born, mother of three and the CEO of Teen Alive, and Dr. Lulu’s Youth Health Center, both dedicated to suicide prevention and high-risk teens.

In 2016 she started speaking out publicly following suicides of colleagues, and a patient, and is herself a victim of domestic abuse and has suffered with a depressive crisis and suicidal thoughts. A regular on media outlets, she is a 2020 TEDx speaker, she has her own show on public television in San Antonio, freelance-writes for magazines, and has a podcast (Suicide Pages with Dr. Lulu) and blog (Words by Black Butterfly).

Her work has been recognized by the “Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission” of Nigeria, and the Texas State House of Representatives.

Angela Mirembe Semwogerere

Angela Mirembe Semwogerere is the Founder of Coding In Heels, a Social Enterprise that focuses on inspiring Girls and Women to embrace STEM ( Science, Technology,Engineering and Maths) with her focus on technology. She is also a consultant and a member of Uganda’s National Taskforce on emerging technologies - (Fourth Industrial Revolution- 4IR) and an IVLP (International Visitors Leadership Program) Alumni.

With 12 years experience working in the IT & Telecommunication Industries, she has great passion for technology and she is seasoned in this field and is an authority in matters concerning digitization, youth and innovation.

Currently, Angela also “speaks” for a living specifically advocating for Girls and Women to embrace technology and become acquainted with the trends of the Digital revolution. She provides support to girls and women through the use of inspirational talks and practical training.

Her life’s purpose is to be deliberately active in closing the digital gender gap and have women sit at the table and participate in shaping the future.

Mary Chirwa Tshuma

Mrs Tshuma is the first Director General of the Zambian Financial Intelligence Unit, which is the Financial Intelligence Centre. She has held this position since September 2013 to date. She has over 20 years of experience in the Financial Analysis, Financial Investigations and Intelligence Gathering. She further holds an Advanced Certification as a Certified Anti Money Laundering Specialist-Financial Crimes Investigations. Prior to joining the Financial Intelligence Centre she was the Senior Assistant Commissioner and Head of the Anti-Money Laundering investigations Unit (AMLIU) under the Drug Enforcement Commission. At the regional level, she serves as the Chairperson of the Typologies Working Group of the Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group (ESAAMLG). Mrs Tshuma is a qualified AML/CFT Mutual Evaluation Assessor.  She is a fellow of the International Institute of Certified Forensic Investigation Professionals. Mrs Tshuma holds an award in her  maiden name for courageous leadership awarded by Nudge Global Impact, a Netherlands based institution.

Evangelina Nangula Hamunyela

Nangula Hamunyela has held various executive positions in Postal, Banking and Petro-Chemical industries. As former Managing Director of Engen Namibia, the largest supplier of fuel in Namibia, Nangula has distinguished herself as a business leader with a solid track record of delivering result.

Nangula is the co-founder and Executive Director of the International Coaching and Mentoring Institute Namibia

Sophia Grinvalds

Sophia (Klumpp) Grinvalds is a pioneer of the global Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH) movement and an award-winning entrepreneur.  She is the co-founder of AFRIpads, an impact-driven, social business dedicated to advancing the MHH needs of women and girls in developing countries.  Her motivation stems from the belief that if we can overcome menstrual barriers, we are one crucial step closer to gender equality.  With over a decade of experience in Africa, Sophia has led AFRIpads from a seed idea to one of the leading manufacturers of reusable sanitary pads in the world.  AFRIpads has operations in Uganda and Kenya, over 175 employees, and has distributed over 3.5 million products across 37 countries in Africa.  Sophia’s work was most recently honoured with the Power Together Award in November 2019 from the Women’s Political Leadership Forum, recognizing AFRIpads as a leader in the movement to end period inequality. Sophia holds a BA from McGill University in Canada and has resided in Uganda since 2008.

 Anita has broad business development experience for global sustainable trade, especially for women. She uses her strategic marketing experience, co-creation with customers and digitally enabled tools to drive the benefits of trade.

In the Logistics world, Anita is a known speaker on gender diversity & inclusion as well as developing women in corporate organizations and in SMEs to create a better world with equal opportunities. She is keen on deploying capability training, facilitating meetings for gender parity and interacting and educating women by sharing experiences.

Angélique is an experienced international certified coach and group facilitator and lives in Tanzania. She accelerates the growth of professionals and (senior) leaders across countries and cultures on-line and off-line in the field of (personal) leadership and team development. Africa is close to her heart and she joined CoachAfrica as an Advisor as she believes that this is the time to unleash the full potential of so many Africans.
